Should a customer express concern about the engine undershooting to a stop, lack of power resulting in reduced top speed or failure to start, the probable cause is cam plate failure in the Bosch VP30 fuel injection pump caused by contamination in the fuel system. To rectify this concern, a new fuel injection pump should be installed, the fuel system thoroughly cleaned and a fuel additive should be used.
Note:
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) are not always generated by this concern except in some instances where there is also a pump timing code.
Production Action
Fuel specification improvement for the initial fill has been implemented since 13.05.2002 (build code 2J). A new fuel injection pump has been fitted in production since 01.12.2001.

Check for metal debris in the fuel system
The following steps should be carried out to confirm that fuel injection pump cam plate failure has taken place.
1. Disconnect number 1 and 2 high pressure fuel supply lines at the injector end only.
Check for small flakes of metal debris in the fuel lines and at the injectors.
2. Remove the fuel filter element. For additional information, refer to Transit 2000.5 310 01A.
3. Cut open the fuel filter element and look for high quantities of metallic particles.
4. If high quantities of metallic particles have been found, it is likely that fuel injection pump camplate failure has taken place. Go to Installation of new system components step 1.
5. If no or few metallic particles are found, further investigation is required to resolve the concern. For additional information, refer to Transit 2000.5 303 04A/B.
Installation of new system components
Note:
Install new high pressure fuel supply lines (see Parts Required).
6. Install a new fuel injection pump and gasket (see Parts Required). For additional information, refer to Transit 2000.5 303 04A/B.
Note:
Install new leak off pipes (see Parts Required).
7. Install new fuel injectors (see Parts Required). For additional information, refer to Transit 2000.5 303 04A/B.
8. Install a new fuel filter assembly (see Parts Required). For additional information, refer to Transit 2000.5 310 01A.
Remove, flush and install fuel tank
9. Remove the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to Transit 2000.5 310 01A.
10. Using clean fuel, flush the fuel tank to remove any metallic particles that are present.
11. Install the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to Transit 2000.5 310 01A/B.
12. Add the fuel additive to a minimum of 10 liters of diesel.
Oil and filter service
13. Install a new oil filter (see Parts Required).
Renew the engine oil.
Теперь от себя: вероятная причина - загрязнение в топливной системе или проблемы с подачей топлива.
Для начала необходимо пересмотреть всю топливную, начиная от бака. Продуть ее.
Неплохо затем использовать добавку - очиститель топливной системы, чтобы окончательно очистить топливную.
